| Sports massage and remedial massage involve deeper tissue work than other
kinds of massage. The therapist will gently loosen layers of tissue with effleurage and
petrissage movements, to steadily reach deeper into muscles. The pressure will be firm. There
may be some discomfort when working on injured muscles, but this usually dissipates
quickly. The therapist will easily recognise the difference between 'good' and 'bad' pain,
and be able to avoid making the condition worse. Never hide discomfort from your
therapist.
Depending on the problem or requirement, sessions can vary from weekly to monthly, or
even quarterly. Long-standing, chronic or recent injuries will require more frequent
treatments. Regular treatments will have a beneficial cumulative effect. |
